Sansei Suzuki

Sansei Suzuki began making celadon works after he was deeply inspired by a piece produced for the Song imperial court he encountered at the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan in 1975. After many years and experiments in his search for the right ash for his glaze, he found that Japanese Zelkova wood ash would give him the colour he was looking for. Over the course of his long career, Sansei has won numerous prestigious awards including the 1988 Japan Ceramic Society Award and the first prize in the traditional ceramics category in 1992 at the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition. He has exhibited at countless juried exhibitions, and his work has been collected by institutions such as the British Museum, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
